Want to become a security guard or get a qualification that recognises your skills? Show you can carry out the key roles and responsibilities of security guards with an Award in Security Personnel.

The Award for Security Personnel is for people who work as security guards, or for those who would like to begin working as security guards. You don't need any experience or qualification; however, you may already be working in the security industry.

Duration: 12 Weeks

Class Days:  Mondays-Thursdays 5:30 – 9 p.m. or Fridays 5:30 – 9 p.m.; Saturdays 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

  2. Key Activities of Security Personnel
  3. Responsibilities of Security Personnel for Health and Safety and Dealing  with Emergencies
  4. Communication and Customer Care for Security Personnel
  5. Basic Self Defense
  6. Basic First Aid & CPR

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for candidates undertaking this course.


After successful completion of assessment, all candidates will receive from:

  •  Excelsior Community College (ECC) – ECC Certification
  • City & Guilds – International Certification from City & Guilds

This Certification is related to:

UK National Occupational Standards in Security and Loss Prevention

National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Providing Security Services at level 2

City & Guilds level 2 Vocationally-Related Qualification (VRQ) in Security Guard (1902-01/02) which is accredited as part of the National Qualification Framework of England, Wales and Northern Ireland  National Qualifications Framework (NQF), and which is approved by the UK Security Industry Authority (SIA) as a license to practice qualification in England, Wales and Scotland.
