ECC reigning Champions at the 2017 CCCJ Athletic Championship

Members of the ECC 2017 CCCJ Track & Field Championship & Cheerleading Competition Team flocked by
members of their Department of Sports.

Excelsior Community College did it again with their might at the second staging of the Council of Community Colleges (CCCJ) Track & Field Championship & Cheerleading Competition on Saturday March 19, 2017 at the Montego Bay Sports Complex. ECC finished with 236 points, while Knox Community College finished second with 222.5 points. 

The other competitors at the championship were as follows; Moneague College in third place with 197 points. CASE was fourth with 136 points; Montego Bay Community College in fifth place with 120 points; Bethlehem Moravian College in sixth place with 71 points and Browns Town Community College with 65.5 points in seventh place and in eighth place was Portmore Community College.

Led and coached by David Riley, ECC’s might was felt in most of the events of the day, including the long jump, high jump, and triple jump.

ECC's Tamoya Walters, finished with 27 points and was crowned the event’s Champion Female. She copped three gold medals, retaining her triple jump and high jump titles and setting a meet record in the long jump.

Additionally, the Champion Male of the one-day event was jointly shared by ECC’s very own Maurice Harrison and Knox Community College’s Javon Smith, who both accounted for 25 points each of their  team's overall tally. Maurice Harrison won the men’s discus with a new record of 41.45m.

In speaking with the principal, he stated, “The performance of the athletes overall represents the essence of EXED’s motto, Age Animo, that is, doing it with thy might.”
