Principal’s Welcome Address
It is my pleasure to welcome all new and returning staff and students to Excelsior Community College. Your choice to be a part of this “A+” institution represents a commitment to a philosophy of excellence, as embodied in our motto “Age Animo” – Do it With Thy Might.
Our passion for excellence has produced many successes in the academic arena. Our nursing programme is regarded as one of the best in Jamaica and our School of Business Studies offers the first and only Post Graduate Community College programme in the island.
The firm academic foundation provided by ECC has been critical in facilitating the seamless transition of our alumni to post graduate studies. Our alumni may be found performing as global citizens in fields such as accounting, medicine, law, journalism, construction, cosmetology, logistics, entertainment and education.
In order to provide our students with the most relevant, current and globally portable qualifications, ECC has created international linkages with institutions such as Hocking College (Ohio, USA), with which we deliver several joint programmes.
ECC is committed to our students’ receiving professional certification and offers preparation for the CompTia and other ICT qualifications. Similarly, students who pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting benefit from advanced placement in the ACCA programme.
To further promote your achievement, the College is blessed with an approachable and caring faculty whose efforts are complemented by an ongoing academic advisement process and other support services provided through our Office of Student Services. Learning enterprises such as our bookshop and salon provide students with the opportunity to earn apply the skills and knowledge gained in the classroom.
To produce graduates who truly excel on the global stage, we must enhance moral, social and physical development. ECC is a Methodist institution and we strive to inculcate in our students our core values of integrity, accountability, commitment, respect, trust and transparency.
To this end, all first year students will participate in programmes such as the PACE (Philosophy, Aesthetics and Citizenship Education) and the Values and Attitudes, both of which are designed to foster the behaviours required in successful global citizens.
All students are also encouraged to participate in the wide range of co-curricular activities offered and to take part in the many intra-mural competitions open to you as members of Halls.
As a member of this distinguished institution, I hope you will be inspired to overcome the obstacles – academic, financial, personal and emotional - that will present themselves.
As we begin another academic year, let us work together to transform lives - always aiming Yet Higher.
