The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Library Technical Studies was designed in response to the growing need for trained upper-level para-professional specialists in the field of Library and Information Science. The course of study prepares participants to assume some supervisory positions in galleries, libraries, archives and museums (GLAM). The learning experiences designed provide practical training in the specialized areas of library and information science. Emphasis is placed on hands-on experience and courses are performance driven.

Overview
The programme is designed to train and prepare paraprofessionals of the highest quality to work in the field of Library and Information Studies, both locally and internationally.
Aims & Objectives of the programme
- To equip students with the technical expertise necessary for providing support services in libraries.
- To train paraprofessional library personnel who are able to effectively and efficiently carry out library tasks.
- To produce library technical graduates who are able to adapt to changes and capable of functioning in technologically oriented environments.
- To develop through viewing, listening, reading, lectures, research and practical demonstrations, the required competencies to function efficiently in all types of libraries.
- To promote the use of libraries and the profession of librarianship as effective tools in the reduction of illiteracy in our society and for national development.
- To improve the knowledge skills and attitudes of persons working in libraries.
- To eliminate negative attitudes towards libraries and librarianship.
Requirements
To matriculate to the programme applicants must fulfill one of the following:
- 1. Five (5) GCE O’Level passes inclusive of English Language with grade A, B or C.
- 2. Five (5) CSEC passes inclusive of English Language with grade I, II or III. Grade III plus 4 CSES/GCE/SSC subjects inclusive of English Language.
- 3. Equivalent qualifications as determined by the CCCJ.
- 4. Mature status as determined by the CCCJ.
