It is my pleasure to welcome all new and returning staff and students to Excelsior Community College (ECC). Your choice to be a part of this A+ institution represents a commitment to a philosophy of excellence, as embodied in our motto “Age Animo” – Do it With Thy Might. We are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for YOU.
This academic year promises to be challenging as we navigate the COVID-19 experience and adapt to the ‘new normal’. The College has developed systems that facilitate accessibility, safety and responsiveness to student needs. We will house the Office of Graduate Studies, the Faculty of Business Management, the School of Business & Entrepreneurial Studies (SOBES) and the School of Tourism, Hospitality and Entertainment Management (THEM) at our new Eureka campus. This will be the home of all our postgraduate students, and 3rd and 4th year students in the Faculty of Business Management.
We will be employing a variety of modalities – blended, remote, online and face to face – and our highly-trained and committed faculty and support staff stand ready to facilitate your academic and personal growth. Thus, our 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students will be taught remotely while our 1st year students will be engaged face-to-face as well as online, as guided by the Ministry of Health & Wellness (MHW) and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information (MoEYI).
Additionally, academic advisement and other support services provided through our Student Services Division may be accessed on campus or through our Online Help Desk.
To learn more, I encourage you to read all student advisories, visit the College website and intranet, participate in all orientation activities and attend any Town Hall Meetings scheduled during the year.
ECC is committed to the holistic development of its students. As a Methodist institution, we are guided by the principles of our faith and seek to inculcate values and attitudes that promote the growth and development of our students, our institution and the nation. Our rich co-curricular programme offers diverse opportunities for you to explore your interests and to develop leadership skills. I urge you to participate in these activities, to contribute to College life and the wider society while building your professional and social networks.
In an era in which change is the only constant, your decision to continue your education shows resilience, strength and a determination to claim your place in the global economy. Let us soar together, building on the legacy of our Founder, the Hon Dr. A. Wesley Powell, aiming always ‘Yet Higher’.
