The last few decades have seen considerable change in our environment both globally and locally. Some of these changes have wrought immense strain on our environment and man’s ability to sustain himself in the future. Such changes include global warming, deforestation, improper garbage disposal and waste of resources. It is with these circumstances in mind, that the need to develop and implement an Environmental Studies programme to reverse the current trend of environmental degradation and create a balance which is needed for man’s existence worldwide.
The Council of Community Colleges of Jamaica realizes that environmental education is critical to ensure the long-term well-being of the Jamaican environment. Education can create the awareness and employable skills seen as necessary for the identification, remediation, and prevention of environmental problems on a national and international scale.
Strong written and verbal communication and etiquette in a formal business environment.
Public speaking and presentation abilities
Leadership qualities for team environments.
Awareness of globalization and cross-cultural issues.
Persons with industry experience seeking certification
• Persons with industry experience who need formal training
• Persons who want to change their career path
• High school graduates interested in careers in Engineering
General
Five (5) CSEC / GCE subjects including English Language* and Mathematics* with grade I, II or III/ A, B or C. Note that a grade III pass in CSEC must be after June 1998 or any equivalency recognized by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ).
*Equivalency courses available to persons who do not have required CSEC/GCE/SSC pass in these subjects.
Pathways
Flexible enrollment that allows you to further your education with whatever qualification you have in hand. ECC will create a Personal Development plan for each student to achieve their educational goals.
Mature Entry (all programmes)
Candidates over the age of 25 years who do not have the academic qualification required will need to have completed at least five (5) years industry experience and should submit a portfolio.
