The Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Systems is focused on students who want a solid mix of business and technical data systems knowledge that is applicable to almost every business sector. Areas include organizational behaviour, economics, operations and finance. Students will be able to use their knowledge and technical expertise to plan, design, execute and maintain data systems for the collection, processing and use of data. Information Systems specialists focus on integrating IT solutions and business processes to meet the information needs of businesses, thus enabling them to achieve their goals and objectives. They will also be able to recommend appropriate business technologies and software in order to solve business problems. Career opportunities include: Information Systems Manager, Database Administrator, Database Analyst, Systems Integrator, Network Administrator, User Support.
Strong written and verbal communication and etiquette in a formal business environment.
Public speaking and presentation abilities
Leadership qualities for team environments.
Awareness of globalization and cross-cultural issues.
To matriculate to the programme, applicants must fulfil one of the following:
1. Pass at least five (5) subjects at CSEC/GCE including English Language and Mathematics and a Technical subject, with grade I, II or III. Grade III / A, B, or C. Grade III pass in CSEC must be after June 1998. (City & Guilds Stage 3 Math & English is accepted – conditions apply). NB. Students with 5 subjects, without a pass in CSEC/GCE Mathematics will be required to sit equivalent Foundation courses at an additional cost.
OR
2. Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR)/Mature Student Entry applicants must be over twenty-five (25) years with a minimum of five years experience in a specialised area of the industry. Applicants will be accepted based on an assessment of their prior learning. Each applicant must submit an academic portfolio for individual assessment.
Advanced Placement
Holders of an Associate Degree in Information Technology with no more than six (6) credits outstanding can advance to the third year of the program. Applicants who fail to meet this criterion will be required to complete the necessary bridging courses at the Associate degree level prior to being afforded acceptance.
