Excelsior Community College’s 5K Run/Walk Raises Funds to Support Students Kingston, Jamaica – Excelsior Community College (ECC) successfully hosted its first ever 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, May 24, 2025, as part of its 50th Anniversary celebrations under the theme “Celebrating 50 Years – Honouring a Legacy of Achievements.” Participants – including students, staff, alumni, and supporters from across the corporate area – gathered at the ECC main campus from as early as 6:30 a.m., for warm-up exercises before hitting the road just after 7:00 a.m., for a lively and well-organized race through the streets of Kingston. The ‘Fit For 50’ 5K event, dubbed a “Legacy Project,” was aimed at raising funds to provide financial assistance to students in need. It also served to strengthen community bonds and promote healthy lifestyles. Mr. Philmore McCarthy, Principal of the Excelsior Community College, expressed gratitude for the turnout and support. “This event was more than just a race—it was a celebration of our journey over the last 50 years and a reaffirmation of our commitment to our students’ success,” he said. The day featured a designated fun zone and several water stations along the route to keep participants hydrated and energized. Attendees were treated to refreshments, entertainment, and giveaways following the race. “The Excelsior family would like to extend sincere thanks to all sponsors, including Derrimon Trading Co. Ltd., VM Group, Mother’s, TIP Friendly Society, Caribbean Marketing Place 2030, Nationwide Radio, JTA Co-operative Credit Union, and Medical Disposables & Supplies Ltd., for making the event possible,” added McCarthy.
